Pixel Motion Films is a Vancouver based film studio. They shot a millennial style travel show series, with the pilot episode in Northern Vietnam. The pilot will be part of a series of episodes each filmed in a different country. The travel show was pitched to Discovery Channel, BBC, Netflix.

In 2018, they hired me to design a 20 pages branded booklet that plays a strategic role in supporting their pitches of the travel show to the various TV networks, as well as an illustration depicting tribes people from the various tribes in Northern Vietnam.

The brief was to design a tribes person, maintaining a natural local vibe throughout the illustration, steering away from something too digital and cold.

My concept involved designing the character in a hand-drawn style. The imperfections of a hand-drawing make the character human, warm, organic. Furthermore, it allows for a great showcasing of the beautiful tribes clothing. This was an aspect I wanted to focus on as each tribe has quite distinct patterns and coloUrs. Vietnam's own imperfections are what makes it beautiful and gives its truly unique cultural character and the hand-drawn illustration style perfectly reflect that.
